Review: The Blood of Olympus

Oh my gods. I just finished the best book I have read. Yet. I had a mixed emotion after reading the book: sad, happy, frustrated, in love. But I must say, this book is an absolute perfection. I love it so, so much. A literal unputdownable book. The character developments are so recognizable, and I loved it! Reading the book made me cry a river, but it wasn’t a waste of tears.

When I saw its Table of Contents, there goes Nico’s name. I was like, Oh great! A POV from Nico. I would definitely love it. And guess what? I did. I almost wished that every chapter should’ve been Nico’s POV. Almost. But the book was divided into different point of views, different scenarios, which made it a really great one. The adventures, their battles, sweet talks. Almost everything went well in the book.

I enjoyed the book. A lot! It’s perfectly written and the words are wonderfully picked – the demigods faced so many monstrous creatures and near-death scenarios – and I don’t recall anyone saying fuck or shit or something like that. However, it’s just hard to know all the gods and other creatures in the book because there’s too many of them and I could not even pronounce their names correctly.

The Blood of Olympus is not only filled with actions, as well as romance. It went perfectly well in the story. Jason and Piper, my least favorite couple, were better than the books before but they’re still my least favorite. Apart from that, the book is also funny, witty. It had me laughing for like a minute or so. Oh, wait. Those lines still got me right now.

Here are some of those:

“Never before have I been so harassed by one of my sons. Percy this and Percy that. I nearly blasted you to Cinders.”

He looked over at the silver pocketknife in his hand. An idea came to him – possibly the stupidest, craziest idea he’d had since he thought, Hey, I’ll get Percy to swim to the River Styx! He’ll love me for that!



 

“Oh, come on!” Percy complained. “I get a little nosebleed and I wake up the entire earth? That’s not fair!”

I cried a lot while I was reading. And then, the last chapter happened! Oh gods, I felt my heart beating so, so fast. I did not see that coming! Oh gods. After reading, I was singing Best Song Ever by One Direction but changed the lyrics: And I cried all night but it’s the best book ever!, because it literally is.

Obviously I loved the book. Rick Riordan is a genius. Any argument is invalid. Why I read the series just this year? Oh I don’t know. But no regrets. I love it so much. 10 over 5 stars because it is absolutely, definitely, totally perfect. Err, I’m having the book hangover…

Review: The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak

So... The Improbable Theory of Zak and Ana is neither a bad book nor a good one. I was dreading for something unusual but... nah. I didn't get what I wanted.

It's a short book but took me about a day to read it. The instalove didn't help. That quick? Hmm... I'm not quite convinced. Liking the person you'd least expect you would.



Ana is a typical smart teenager: good grades, strict parents, and the need for an almost perfect life. Zak, on the other hand, is the total opposite. He is the comic book geek whose idea of fun is going yearly to an event called Washingcon. Hmm. So, they begin series of misadventures. Huh, I think I've read or watched this somewhere.

When Zak and Ana were looking for Clayton, Ana's brother, things didn't go quite well. Everything goes down to Clayton. But why didn't Ana stop him or at least tried screaming to him while he was getting on a cab. Nah. Gods, is it that hard? And the fact that Clayton's just watching them? Oh gods. I was totally annoyed.



I didn't get hooked up with the book, but I know I had to finish this. I was looking for something extraordinary but I didn't see it! So... Clayton had to wander around the Washingcon so that Zak will like his stepfather and that Ana will learn to answer his mother and fight for herself? Huh. Gods.

Overall I did not like the book. But I think I liked the part about Ana's life, although things seem to be exaggerated. Once again, this book isn't for me.

Review: The House of Hades

OH MY GODS. I so freaking love this book. This is the best book of the series yet! It was an easy and enjoyable read. I love everything in the book: the way it was written, the characters, the plot, and most especially the character developments.



Jason and Piper is still my least favorite pair in the series. But I kinda like how these two improved in the book, most especially Piper who used to be the beauty queen in the first book. I'm also glad that Frank finally trusted Leo. It's hard to be on a big, big ship with people you can't trust. Leo, of all, had changed a lot! After being stranded in an island with a girl, he has changed quite a lot. Wow, although I hope we still get the old witty Leo. Nico, oh Nico. That big secret of his, it made me love him even more. Leo might have changed a lot but still, Nico is the one who changed the most from his first appearance in The Titan's Curse to this book.

Percy and Annabeth... oh gods, these two. They're brave and smart and obviously in love with each other. Getting plunged into Tartarus alone was bad enough, but having each other probably made it a little bit lighter.



The book still alternates from different perspectives, taking us into a trip to Tartarus and as well as the world above. Unsurprisingly, I love the book and am dying to read more. Rick Riordan wrote the book very well. The House of Hades is a very compelling book, drawing the reader in from the first page to the last.
